Meet Deb Peters
Deb Peters is a 6th generation South Dakotan. She grew up in Madison, SD where her parents instilled the importance of family, a strong work ethic and personal accountability. Those lessons have become the framework for Deb, personally and professionally. When Deb saw an opportunity to serve the state she loves, she won the support of her community and has represented District 9 in the South Dakota State Legislature since 2005.
Peters holds a degree in accounting and business administration with a major in Accounting from the University of South Dakota. She is a certified public accountant and owns her own business consulting company.
With more than 18 years of professional experience in the community as a small business owner and dedicated public servant, Peters is a champion of creating more accountability and transparency in government. She serves as the Chair of the Government Operations and Audit Committee and a member of the Appropriations Committee.
Peters was recognized as one of the top 40 political rising stars under 40 years old by the Washington Post. In 2016, Governing Magazine named Peters one of its Public Officials of the Year.
The University of South Dakota Alumni Association honored Peters with an Alumni Achievement Award for her Public Service.
Peters lives in Hartford, S.D., with her husband Chris and two sons, Derick and Braden.When she is not serving the people of South Dakota, you can find her spending time with her family.
